In case you missed it last summer, I created a super versatile, incredibly easy, and of course, absolutely delicious way to use up all that extra fruit in your fridge or on your counter. Did I mention they’re just as fun to make as they are to eat?!
That’s right, these rainbow fruit skewers just require a bit of chopping and threading to put them together, and the result is the perfect snack or treat that kiddos (and adults) will LOVE. In fact, these cute fruit skewers are such a great activity to do with kids during the summer — especially ones learning their colors!
You know I had to do them up with a delicious drizzle of chocolate and sprinkle of flakey sea salt. It turns the skewers into a satisfying dessert that’s guaranteed to satisfy that sweet tooth craving. I included even more ideas for dips, too, so be sure to let me know how you serve them!
What are fruit skewers?
Just like traditional food skewers or kabobs, fruit skewers are simply whole or cubed rainbow fruits threaded onto a skewer! They’re super versatile and come together in minutes, so I love making them as easy snacks or treats.
Everything you’ll need to make fruit skewers
I love making these fresh fruit kabobs as an easy snack or healthy treat during the week. You’ll need just 5 simple ingredients:
- Strawberries
- Orange
- Pineapple
- Banana
- Kiwi
- Optional: your favorite semi-sweet or dark chocolate bar and a sprinkle of flaky sea salt
What fruits work best?
The best part about making rainbow fruit skewers is that you can use pretty much any colorful fruits you’d like! Feel free to mix and match:
- For the strawberries: red apples, raspberries, cubed watermelon, and red grapes
- For the pineapple & orange: mango, cantaloupe, and peach chunks
- For the kiwi: green grapes and honeydew melon
- For extra blue or purple: blackberries, blueberries, or purple grapes
How to make rainbow fruit skewers
- Thread the fruit. Carefully arrange each fruit onto your wooden skewers in rainbow order. Place them on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper.
- Melt the chocolate. Break up your chocolate bar and melt the chunks in a microwave safe bowl until fully melted.
- Top your skewers. Drizzle the fruit skewers with the melted chocolate, and sprinkle on some fancy sea salt if you like.
- Freeze & enjoy. Lastly, freeze the fruit skewers with chocolate for 5 minutes until the chocolate hardens. Then enjoy!

Have fun with these drizzles & dips
I love the chocolate & sea salt combo on these fruit kabobs, but you could also:
- Dip them in your favorite vanilla yogurt, or drizzle my favorite honey yogurt: mix 1/4 cup yogurt, 1 tablespoon honey, and 1-2 tablespoons water.
- Add melted chocolate and a sprinkle of shredded coconut
- Dip them in my famous 2-ingredient paleo chocolate frosting or my chocolate hummus
- Dip them in How to Make Whipped Cream
Storing tips
Store any leftover fruit skewers covered in the fridge for 1 day.

- Drizzle the melted chocolate over the fruit kabobs and sprinkle with flaky sea salt, if using.
- Place the plate of kabobs in the freezer for 5 minutes or until the chocolate hardens. Enjoy!

That is yummy looking and so cute!
Thank you!!
I’m not a good cook so I love cooking sites like this, thanks for sharing good articles so I can learn and cook delicious food.
These sound amazing. I was just curious how you keep the bananas from turning brown.
They’re best eaten the same day that you make them so that the bananas stay fresh!
The kids always love this new way of eating fruit.
Absolutely! This will be so fun for them 🙂
Cooking websites like these are best. Thanks for this it looks really delicious 🙂
Dice the Apples and Pears: Core and dice the apples and pears. To prevent browning, you can toss them in a little lemon juice before adding them to the salad.
Perfect!
