Lemonade and warmer weather go together like PB&J. It may still be 50 degrees here in Chicago, but I’m dreaming, okay? There’s something so delicious and refreshing about fresh-squeezed lemonade during warmer months, and after I created this amazing lemon blueberry smoothie, I knew I had to try out a strawberry version. I pretty much grew up on strawberry orange banana juice (yes, that one) so this smoothie was also inspired by my love of citrus and strawberries together.
This strawberry lemonade smoothie is the perfect balance of sweet and tart and reminds me of those nostalgic slushies you drank as a kid. I honestly wasn’t sure if I’d be able to have the lemon flavor shine through without being too sour, but OMG this flavor combo is perfection. The best part? It’s made with just 4 simple ingredients, so you can enjoy it time and time again.
The smoothie is incredible as-is, but I’ve included plenty of ways to boost the protein or add some healthy fats and make it a more filling meal. Make it for breakfast, enjoy it as a snack or even make a bigger batch to share and enjoy all summer long!

Four ingredient strawberry lemonade smoothie
That’s right, this gorgeous strawberry lemonade smoothie is made with just 4 ingredients! It’s dairy-free and the perfect balance of sweet and tart. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Frozen strawberries: the delicious berry component in that lemonade flavor.
- Frozen banana: to perfectly balance the tartness of the lemon juice.
- Dairy free milk of choice: I like to use unsweetened almond milk, but feel free to use any milk you have on hand!
- Fresh lemon juice & zest: I recommend using both the juice and the zest for the ultimate lemon flavor.
Customize with your fav berries
If you don’t have any strawberries on hand, feel free to try this smoothie with frozen raspberries (YUM) or make my Lemon Blueberry Smoothie!
Can I make this strawberry lemonade smoothie without banana?
This strawberry lemonade smoothie tastes the best with a ripe banana because it adds the perfect amount of natural sweetness and texture. You could try blending in 2-3 soaked and softened Medjool dates instead, but note that I haven’t tested this out. Let me know in the comments if you do!
Favorite nutrition boosters
Looking to add a boost of protein or healthy fats to this strawberry lemon smoothie? It’s easy! Here are some of our fav mix-ins that would be delicious in this smoothie:
- Flaxseed meal: this is one of my favorite ingredients to add to smoothies for a little boost of fiber and minerals, and is especially great for nursing mamas as flaxseed can help increase milk supply. Usually, a tablespoon is plenty! Here’s a brand I love.
- Chia seeds: feel free to add a tablespoon of chia seeds to your strawberry lemonade smoothie for a boost of healthy fats and fiber.
- Hemp seeds: feel free to throw a tablespoon of hemp seeds into your smoothie for a boost of healthy fats, omegas and minerals.
- Veggies: if you’re looking to get more greens in your smoothie, try adding a cup or two of raw or cooked spinach or kale. You could also try adding some frozen cauliflower for another boost of veggies — you’ll never be able to taste it!
- Protein: Easily add more protein to a smoothie by adding 1 scoop of your favorite protein powder. I recommend Vital Protein collagen peptides or Four Sigmatic Plant-Based Protein Powder. You could also add plain or vanilla greek yogurt!
Don’t forget my best smoothie-making tips
Make this dairy free strawberry lemonade smoothie perfectly thick and creamy with these tips & tricks:
- Use frozen ingredients. Using frozen fruit & veggies is best as it they help keep the smoothie cold and thick. Sometimes ice doesn’t blend as well, so it’s best to skip unless absolutely necessary.
- Add more liquid. Don’t be afraid to add more liquid if your smoothie is too thick or won’t fully blend. High powered blenders tend to blend frozen fruit much better, so if you have a regular or personal size blender, you may need to add more milk.
- Start on low speed. Start the blender on low speed, then gradually increase to high to help blend all ingredients. Finally, end with the blender on low speed.
- Sweeten it up. If a smoothie doesn’t taste sweet enough for your liking, you can add a 1/2 tablespoon of honey, pure maple syrup or another pitted Medjool date, but you likely won’t need it with this recipe.
- Use your fav milk. Feel free to use any milk you’d like in smoothie recipes according to your preferences. Almond milk tends to have a neutral taste in smoothies, coconut milk will add a more tropical and creamy flavor, and regular milk will add a boost of protein.

This looks Amazing!!! I am going to try!!!
Saw this in my email today and had to make it for lunch! So yummy! I ended up using half a banana with half a cup of cauliflower instead of a whole banana. Was SO refreshing! More smoothie recipes, please! 🙂
Very yummy! Added vanilla protein powder. Also, put the whole lemon in. No regrets.
Omg whole lemon–amazing. So happy you loved it!!
I thought this would be too tart for my liking but it was perfect! I added a scoop of Orgain vanilla protein powder and it didn’t overpower the strawberry lemonade flavor at all. I’m going to try the lemon blueberry smoothie next!
Nice!! SO happy you loved it 🙂 Hope you enjoy the lemon blueberry one too!
Great twist on the usual fruity smoothie, and super refreshing for summer. Added a scoop of vanilla protein powder and a T of chia seed
I’m so happy you loved it, Michelle! Great call on the protein powder + chia seeds 🙂
What dairy-free milk is used in the nutrition calculations?
Hi, Ryan! We used unsweetened almond milk 🙂
I love the Lemon Blueberry smoothie so when I saw this one, I knew I had to try. It’s delicious! It’s easy to make and I added the same protein powder Monique recommends since it’s my favorite too. This is a great breakfast or morning snack option!
Nice!! So happy you enjoyed this one, too!
This smoothie is delicious. Followed the recipe to a “T”. The lemon and strawberry pair beautifully together.. even better than the blueberry lemon (also delicious)!! This is not a smoothie I’d make as a meal replacement but more as a dessert replacement it’s that good.
I’m SO glad you love this one, Laurie! Thank you!
I loved it! Such a refreshing smoothie for the mornings! It’s a nice twist from the regular strawberry smoothies out there.
So happy to hear that!
Love this smoothie! I’ve been making it all week and it’s so refreshing and delicious! I used a whole lemon juice and added plain Greek yogurt for some extra protein
So happy to hear that! One of my favs for hot days 🙂
I wasn’t sure about putting lemon in it : I was scared it would be too sour but the sweetness of the strawberry and the banana balance it perfectly. Will definitively make it again !!! Thanks !!!!
YESS! I am so glad you gave this recipe a try and it turned out great for you!
I love a lot of your recipes and enjoy making them. This strawberry lemonade smoothie was a hit in my house!
So happy to hear that!
Thank you for all the tips for making and storing smoothies.
Absolutely!
It’s good. Strong lemon flavor which I like. Unfortunately, I was impatient and didn’t freeze the fruit and only had milk. So I added a cup of crushed ice and zested the lemon and juiced it and voila, strawberry lemon smoothie. Very thick and good.
Thank you.
Great! I’m glad it still turned out well 🙂
I made without banana and followed your fantastic cherry lime smoothie as inspiration (I make the cherry lime smoothie many times a week!) This was AMAZING as a sister-smoothie. Instead of banana, I put 2 dates in warm water to soften and then chopped, used the juice of a whole lemon in addition to the zets, added 1/2 cup of greek yogurt, and 3 ice cubes in addition to the frozen strawberries (in the future i. might leave out the ice cubes). Next time I will add tsp of vanilla. this was FANTASTIC and no bananas in sight. Thank you for the amazing inspiration!
Love that! So glad you enjoyed!
Been loving this versatile smoothie that packs a lemony punch! I’m out of strawberries so I used frozen raspberries and it worked great. I feel like this would be a great smoothie when you’re not feeling well or are suffering morning sickness. I craved citrus during my pregnancy nausea and this would be the perfect cure while getting nutrients!
Love that! And YES great when you’re craving citrus and want something refreshing.
